Fun job

All the final exams are coming up in the following two weeks, all of students stress out now, so do I, but I enjoyed doing the magazine project tonight. I just did some research for our magazine and the ads design. Due to the audience of our magazine is parents, I decided to utilize a picture of mother and children as the background of the ads. Then I put the product picture, which called Magic Hand Wash, under the little boy’s hands. The reasons I choose the hand wash as the product of the ads because we recent encounter the risk of H1N1 infection. Then, I also did some create elements for the ads such as the name, the words style, the features of product, and the contact information. After I completed the ads design part, I wrote one and half pages paper to explain how I designed the ads and why I choose those elements on my work. Besides, I also explained what the message I try to communicate with audiences or customers, and how they would be attracted by the ads. Despite the ads part, there are also more works I have to work on during the weekend, so I will keep researching and getting more and more ideas for the rest part . All in all, it is really a fun job for me, I am not only enjoyed it, I also believe the final outcome of our magazine would be great too. I cannot wait to see it.

Team work

Since Tuesday, we have already started our final project-magazine. I was signed to be group with Erin and Ryan. At the first day, we had a great outcome. For example, the first thing we decided was to classify the theme of our magazine, which related to parents, therefore, we decide to do parenting magazine. And next step , we defined each one’s duty. The project has been divided into different parts, I was responsible for ads portion which mean I am the creative manager; Ryan decided to take editorial part, so the last part was Editor which is Erin’s reasonability. After we defined our duties, the next step we did was to decide who’s going to do analysis paper and research paper. Since Erin had the highest score among us on the research project, so she was automatically become the one who responsible for the research paper writing portion, me and Ryan will do the analysis paper. After we got the major things done, we also discussed about the other things regarding to the extra materials as well as the title of our magazine. We decide to add some recipe and game at the end, and then we also agree to list of five names on for our magazine, then we will pick the best one. In addition, we decide to meet before next Tuesdays before presentation.
It is the first time I work with Ryan and Erin since I have attended this class. Because I did not have many interactions with them during the time, I was afraid to work with them at the beginning. However, after I have worked with them at the first class and a couple of E-mails interactions later on, I realize that they are really nice and friendly as well as responsible for their work.

Media&Fairytale& Life

Recently, I did some research about those superstars in my country as well as other countries. I just checked an interesting news article regarding Beyonce’s new song, “Video Phone.” Another superstar, Lady GaGa, was invited to dance with Beyonce in the video. Both ladies dance sexually, with raunchy moves.

After I read about Beyonce and Lady GaGa, I was reminded of Erin’s presentation last week. As she mentioned, Beyonce’s “singer lady” tries to encourage women to be free from the power men yield over them, take off their rings, and ask themselves “What about me?” It’s important to note that Beyonce herself is married to one of the richest entertainers in America, Jay-Z. Also, she enjoys showing her big diamond ring in public.

Moreover, there is another news article called “Lady GaGa Considers 'Love Game' Too Rude For U.K. Fans,” which explains that “she considers the song's lyrics, which contain line ‘I want to take a ride on your disco stick,’ are too rude for her fans in the country. This song has attracted worldwide attention due to its raunchy lyrics. The article went on to say: "For your first two UK singles to go to No 1 is amazing and we would like to try and carry that on." In other words, the new song “Love Game” will not be released due to its raunchy lyrics. But it is possible that she will make some changes for the song. This is not the first time that Lady GaGa’s music has caused controversy. According to the article, her video, which features naked Lady GaGa frolicking with two men, has been banned in Australia despite the fact that the single has climbed to number 18 on Australia Singles chart.

But , my question is if they try to change the lyrics and succumb to pressure, does it mean the Lady GaGa will change who she is as an artist in order to appease those who are offended by her style? There is other song singed by Lady GaGa called “ Bad Romance,” which contains these lyrics: I want your ugly, I want your disease, I want your everything, As long as it’s free, I want your love, Love-love-love, I want your love.” All the lyrics are quite bawdy. They demonstrate Lady GaGa’s music style. It seems that even if the lyrics are changed, her style will remain. In addition, the song shows an ugly side of life. As she sings, “All your love is revenge, You and me could write a bad romance.”

In my opinion, such lyrics demonstrate the sheer power of the media. Obviously, phrases like “I want your disease” and “All your love is revenge” could be misinterpreted by young minds. Such lyrics may influence people’s lives and thoughts. Similarly, fairy tales has a similar effect on people’s lives. The story from Disney movies always shows how romantic love is, but the romantic love only happens to the damsel distress who finally encounters Mr. Prince. In other words, such movies teach audiences that their own destinies rely on catching the “perfect man.” However, in the reality, how many perfect men are there? Perhaps none. Each woman has her own definition of the perfect man. Sadly, those ideas may be influenced by superstars like Beyonce and Lady GaGa.

In the end, it is important for women to make their own fairy tales. Women today do not need man to complete them. As long as a woman is satisfied, that should be enough, regardless of the man. So, perfect man is the man you stay with and truly love; people should not be influenced by the fairy tales or celebrities’ songs.

Happy Ending and Sadness

It is Thank giving day. It is the time for family members gather together and share joy , but I have nowhere to go because my family is far away from me. Although I am a grow up girl, I still cannot stop crying. I called my boyfriend who is in China right now, but he did not answer. I kept calling him almost hundred times, he still did not answer. However, he finally turned off his cell phone. Few minutes ago, he texted me that “I cannot wait for you any longer, so I want to broke up.” What is that? “I cannot wait any longer, so I want to break up.” This is it. Six years relationship. I do not know how to describe how hurt I feel now, but I just want to say that if every love story has a ending with a happy ever after. Why I feel so hurt now. Does Cinderaller and Snow-white really have a happy ever after ending if all the fairy tales are truly exist. If the happy ever after ending exist, how come there are so many love song with blue feeling such as “If today was last day”, “Never day never”. I really cannot get it.

Gender Role in Fairy Tale

Today I would like to discuss some thing regard to gender role in Fairy tale. As explored the ideal PRINCE Charming and genre of fairy talelast few blogs. The danger of having complex relationship is the fact I would detail more today. It teaches readers beware of the dangers of having step mother and sisters ,and teach readers being brave to face it. As mentioned above, either kids or adults nowadays dream to be popular characters in school and society; therefore they can get Mr. “prince “attention or Miss Prince’s love. Therefore, in order to be popular, people need to maintain a strong networking. In other words, people need to maintain a variety of relationship with different groups includes strangers or devil person, and then their popularities will be rise up. However, when they occupy with keeping relationship with others, they overlook the danger from trusting strangers or evil person, but fairy-tale give them the sense of how scaring the danger can be. One of example is the danger from trusting strangers. For instance, in the tale,” Little Red Riding Hood”, she does not aware of danger from the strange wolf, and responses him all the questions precisely, therefore, it result that she and her grandmother are eaten by wolf at the end of story. The conversation between wolf and Little Red Riding Hood is that
Wolf: “ what are you doing here, little girl?”
Little Red Riding Hood: “I am going to see my Grandmother.”
Wolf: “Does she live very far away?”
Little Red Riding Hood: “Oh, yes, she lives beyond the mill that you can see over there. Here is the first house you come to in the village.”(Charles Perrault 15)
The other example is the danger of having evil sisters in the reality. The fairy tales obviously shows how wicked step sisters or real sisters can be and the great braveness of Cinderella. In the tale, “Beauty and Best”, although Beauty’s two sisters know that Beauty would be killed by Beast if she delays the time back castle; they purposely set her up and make her go back castle late. It is only story of how evil real sisters can be; the next example is how devil step sisters can be. In the tale, “Cinderella”, her step sisters are not only take over all her fancy materials, they also hurt her psychologically by laughing at her. For example, in the tale, it says,
“They took away her beautiful clothes, dressed her in an old Grey smoke, and gave her some wooden shoes.” “ Just look at the proud princess in her finery!” they shouted and laughed , taking her out to the kitchen, from morning until night she had to work hard. On top of that the two sisters did everything imaginable to make her miserable.” (Brothers Grimm 117)
The quotation shows how evil the step sisters are. In contrast, it also shows how brave Cinderella is when she lives in the terrible condition.
From the analysis above, it is clear that by reading fairy-tale, readers will realize the similar fact that happens in the society as well as the story. So, audiences will be influenced by the tale and be aware of the danger from stranger and evil person. It also implys readers that people should be brave to overcome the dangers when they encounter it.
By examining the gender role of different tales, I have disclosed how fairy tale influence the perception of society’s romantic relationships and readers. Despite fairy tales have negative effect on readers such as it overstates the romance of the tale result readers forget reality; they also have some positive influences on readers and Society. Audiences are not only get confidence based on the spiritedly satisfaction from the tales to the reality, they also affected by the lesson of being a mankind should have the beauty of virtue. In addition, they also get the sense of how danger by trusting strangers and evil people from tales. All in all, I would conclude that the confidence and the beauty of virtue: self-confidence, kindness and braveness are the way in the 2009 that we work against this ideal from fairy tale, It is the key principle of romantic relationsip.

Girl, Be Indepdent

I had a tough week, presentation, test, quiz and assignment due. Although I am feeling tired now, I still would like to write a journal before I go to get some sleep.
There were ten presentations during the week, I would say we all did a good job. From each presentation, I can observe that all of classmates put a lot of efforts on the project. Also, one interesting observe is that most of presentation were related to Mr. Prince Charming. So, today, I would like to discuss a little bit more about t Mr. Charming again.
Mr. Charming, in other words, is the Mr. Perfect. In the fairy, Mr. Charming is described as Mr. Prince, the one with a wealthy, image of hero, and high-social class background. So, all the girls are crazy about him. Why these girls crazy about him, what are the reasons Mr Charming so popular? The most important reason I can think of is his fortune and power. As the story mentioned, Mr Charming is the prince of the kingdom. Namely, Mr. Charming does not only have money, he also has strong power on people. Therefore, if girls once marry him, she and her family will climb to another social class. Despite the power, the another advantage of marrying Mr. Charming is that whatever dreams the girl have, will eventually come true after she marry him. In addition, Mr. charming is also a handsome gentleman. However, there is a question I would propose is that what if Mr prince Leave the lucky girl. what is she going to do since all her life depends on the perfect man.
Coco Channel is the found of the famous brand Channel. it famous all of world, such as Channel Perfume, Channel bag. But how many people know the story behind the outstanding brand. Mrs Channel was raised up by Chunch since her mother passed away. In order to start a new family, her father left her and her sister to church and lied to them he would go to America working. One day, Little Channel saw her father on the street and discovered truth. She was heart breaking at that moment, but she did not tell her sister. Because she has great passion for design clothing, she gets a job in a clothing design store after she left church. When the time passed by, she meet a her My Charming , who is a gentleman and handsome as well. She gave up her career to live with her Mr. Charming for one and half year. At the end, she left the gentleman because she realizes that her Mr. Charming would never marry her due to the reason that she was born a low social class. After the second time heart breaking , she focus on her career. With a friend’s help, she opens up the first Channel store. It is a typical story of how woman fall in love with a man, and how she back up after the man left. Also, I believe there are a lot of similar stories in today’s society. Husband left wife or boyfriend dumps girlfriends. Some people can handle it, but some people cannot , so they even choose suicide after their significant other left them. What a tragedy!
In contrasting the female charater in fairy tale and the sotry of CoCo Channel, I would like to say that if girls have a dream to marry a Mr Charming, that is totally understandable; but she should not only marry a man with a purpose or depends on him for everything, she should have depend on herself such as having her own career like Mrs. Channel.

"Freeway" &"Little Red Riding Hood"

“Freeway” is modern version’s “little Red Riding Hood”. It mainly talks about a unfortunate girl, Vanessa. After her mother and step father unrested , she decided to find her grandmother. On the way, her car broke down, and she encounters a freeway rapist, Bob Wolfton. Luckily, Vanessa shot him by a gun, which her boyfriend gave her before She had headed to freeway. After she fled away, Bob was survived. He reported to police and was arrested a Vanessa and put in the jail. At the end, she escaped from the jail and encountered bob at her grandmother’s house again and kills Bob.After I watched the movie, a question pops out on my mind. The question is that is there any similar situation exist in the reality. If it does not how the movie comes out or it’s just the story the director made it up. However, it the movie truly reflects reality, how many “Vennesia” exist in the world, what we can do about

It's racist, Hey, It's Disney"

On Tuesday, we watched a movie called “Mickey Mouse Monopoly”. It basically talks about how Disney shapes children’s life by the innocent, magic images. The most impressive part for me is the concerning of gender role and race, and how children’s culture commercialized. Now, I am going to discuss those three concerns in detail.

Let’s look at the gender role first. In the beginning of Disney movie “Beauty and The Beast”, Beast dances with Beauty, the picture looks so lovely and romantic with the adorably music. However, the Beast, later on, turned to be violently and horrified. He keep yelling to Beauty and abusive to her. As an adult, when I watched the violent part, I even feel scary. How about those young children’s feeling and what kind of message they learn from the movie. In the movie, they interviewed three or four young kids to review the story. At the beginning, they play the film to the kids, and then they asked them what they would say to Beauty if Beauty is their friend and being treated like the what happened in the film. One girl answered something like I feel happy for her because she finds someone to be with, but I feel bad for her because she gets yelled a lot. At this point, I would say, girls, be careful, those kind of message is dangerous . If a girl's goal is only want to find a man to be with, so they should put up with the volient..

Besides gender role, there is another concern I would discuss is the race. In the movie, it shows a title on newspaper, it shows “It’s raciest, Hey, It’s Disney.” Also, in the movie, it mentioned about a tale called Tarzen( I am not sure about the spell), a story of a while man grow up in Africa Jungle. The interesting part in the tale is there is no black people display in the movie at all although it is in Africa. Furthermore, the image send a message to kids that the world is only exist white man, no more other races. The last point I would discuss is how Disney commercialize the children’s culture. They marketing children on the toys ads, encourage children to ask their parents to buy the toys (toy is just one of example) for them. Also, there is another part of Disney movie related to sexual message. They teach young audience to how to get what they want by using their body.

I have analyzed the gender role, race and how children commercialized by Disney movie. the only thing I would say is that those innocent and magic image is just an excuse of how Disney company making money . In other words, the considerable profit from the innocent image of Disney is the final goal from the hidden behind veil of innocence. It just like what the head of Disney Company proposed, “making money is only objective for them”. So, guys, it is not your fault if you like that innocent and magic image, but do not forget reality.

How Fairy Tales influence Romantic Relationships continue

Today I am going to discuss is that the influence of fairy tale on readers and the perception of romantic relationship is the gender role and the danger of relationship. By studying different gender role in the romantic story, the characteristic of main characters is explored, readers learn the important lesson that the benefits of being a high-quality person. The tale, on the one hand, affects readers to believe the retribution of being devil person by showing how harsh the punishment the evil person receives. For example, in the tale, Snow White, the punishment of her wicked step mother is the death. Again, in the tale, Cinderella’s stepsisters are punished by the blindness. In the book, “The Classic Fairy Tale” ,shows that “two sister’s eyes are pecked by dove. In the end, they were punished for their wickedness and malice with blindness for the rest of their life.”(Brothers Grimm 120)
On the other hand, audience also can learn how lucky good people will be if they are being a fine mankind. For example, in tale, “Snow White”, readers understand that the reason why Snow White meet Prince because the seven dwarfs misunderstand that Snow White died already and put her in a glass coffin, then prince pass by and save her accidently. In the tale, “Snow White and Severn dwarfs,” shows that
“The seven dwarfs could not bring themselves to bury her in the black ground so they made a glass coffin, and set in upon the seventh mountain so that all who pass by could peek in upon her beauty. A prince come and carries the coffin. Snow white woke up by a accident stumble.”(Anne Seton 99)
At the section, the miraculously moment, at some level, can influence readers to believe the critical principle is that luck and miracle only come to people who has the beauty with an inner essence. Without Snow White’s kindness, she would not talk to the wicked queen who pretends to be a poor and old lady. And she would not buy the poison apple and ate it, and she would not be able meet the Mr. Prince.
Collecting all the coincidences together, readers are surely getting the message, which good people will be the lucky one eventually. Moreover, it also teaches readers that the dream to be perfect prince and princess is no long supported by the outer appearance or luxury castle, but the inner essence and the virtue. Namely, the concept of ideal does not rely on how beautiful people are; it depends on what they have inside of them such as kindness and self-confidence.

How fair tale influence romantic relationship

Samantha Montgomery and Austin, Modern version’s Cinderella and Prince in the movie “A Cinderella Story”, are the student at North Valley High. Austin is a popular kid at North Valley High; his dream is to go to Princeton. Samantha is a stepdaughter of her family and is treated deviled by her step mother and two stepsisters after her father died. One day, Samantha accidently meets Austin on internet and text each other for a while, then they decide to meet at Halloween party. At the party, Samantha leaves her cell phone because she is hurry to go back home before her stepmother finds out. Since then, Austin starts looking for his dreaming girl -the owner of cell phone- in school. All girls in school are crazy about the news and pretend to be the owner.
It is the modern version of Cinderella and typically example of how fairy tale influence young generation’s life, In school, popular boys and girls, normally, have been treated as prince and princess. While the definition of popular boy is someone who has a rich family, smart and handsome, the definition of popular girl means someone who is not only having a wealthy family, she is also sexy and pretty. Every kids in school dreams to be the popular kids and to be treated as prince or princess, it is an universe phoneme in society as well nowadays. Girls are looking for Mr. charming and wish to marry them then happy ever after, but how many of them can really dream come true? Now, I am going to examine the principle that readers are no longer the victims of the ideal by exploring the influence of fairy tales on readers and perception of romantic relationship: the genre of fairy tales.
The influence of fairy tale on readers and perception of romantic relationship is the genre of tales. The universe genre of fairy tale is ended with a happy ending, with the happy ending; audience can be influenced in both positive and negative way. Reader can get a satisfaction from the happy ending and build up confidence and hope from the reality. In the tale, “Snow White”, the main character is saved by a handsome prince at the end, eventually, they get marriage and happy after forever (Snow White and Seven Dwarfs 98). Also, in the tale, “Beauty and Beast”, Beauty marries to a Beast, but the ugly Beast lastly turns to be a charming prince (Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont 30). All the tales teach audiences how lucky the girls are at the end, how romantic the love story can be. So, readers can be comforted spiritedly by the tale especially the female who has been treated unfairly in society, such as she does not have a good looking and unpopular in her life or her significant other treats her in a bad way. Furthermore, fairy tale also brings a confidence and hope to readers by prince display.
However, with the prince display, fairy tale can create a negative influence on reader as well. If readers are too obsessed with romantic side of fairy -tale, they are more likely to forget the difference between reality and story. In order to pursue their ideal dream such as ideal man, girls can act as crazy as they can. For example, Leo, the main character of the movie “Lavender”, is a famous singer. All girls crazy about him, and chase him everywhere he goes. However, Xun, the other main character in the movie, is Leo’s first lover since he was ten. When their relationship is explored by journalist and reports on the news. Two girls go crazy and find Xun , break her bike and warning her to stay away from Leo. It is only a movie, but it is the reflection of reality, otherwise, the director cannot make the story up without any sources. According to the article, “Why Movie Move Us,” Professor, Marshall McLuhan, states that, “Film’s impact is due to the medium becoming the message itself. It is an extension of our sense; it is a mirror of the external world.” (Roger Bacon 65). In other words, movie is not only a fiction for audience; it is also a reflection of people’s life-which is outside of movie- in the society. Thus, the similar situation appears in the movie also occurs in the reality. But the question is what ends up with the ideal dream of the girls and boys who wish to marry superstar or become the super modern or the richest guy like Bill Gate? The only answer is there is nothing left for the ideal dream except disillusionment.
Since the happy ending of fairy tales bring not only a positive influence, the spiritedly comfort from tales to reality; but also a negative influence on readers and society, the confusion between tale and reality. It is clear that audience can fulfill their wish spiritedly by the tale , but they should be able to understand the difference between romantic story and reality. Therefore, people should keep their hope based on the spiritedly satisfaction and build up their confidence to looking forwards the real life, but to hold up the ideal dream and wish it come true forever.

Relection of Fairy Tales

I watched a movie called Mirrors. Ben Carson, a former detective in New York, is the main character of the movie. In order to rebuild his life, he got a new job as a night watchman at a fired department store –Mayflower. During the time, many weird things happened caused by an abnormal mirror. The things reflect in the mirror was not reflect in the reality. Also, the mirror tried to force Ben to find a lady called Eessker. At the end, he did what the mirror asked him to do, therefore, his family survived. Unfortunately, he died in the mirror.
After finished the movie, there was a question has remained on my mind. The question is that does the romantic story in the fairy tale reflect in the reality? Since the semester has started, I and our classmates have been discussed different fairy tales a lot. We discussed the cultural difference of each tale, the main characters, and the moral of those stories. However, what we really learn from the fairy tale, the moral or the tale itself? My opinion is that the most important lesson we have learned is the truth beyond the moral and tales, it’s the lesson we have look at closely and read hardly, and then realize that there is no Mr. Charming at all in the reality. Compare those tales to the modern society, there is some different places and similarities as well. For example, the concept of Mr. Charming or prince, in the tale, is an ideal man all girls dream of. Slimily, the sort of situation also happens in today’s society. Girls always dream to have a Mr. Prince (Mr. Rich) to get marriage. So, they try to learn how to make up, prepare themselves to wait for their Mr. Prince‘s display. However, the question where is the Mr. charming exist? As result, those girls always end up with disappointment not the dream come true. For example, Lauren, one of my best friends, she tries to learn how to wear high-heel only because people tell her that guys love girl who wear sexy high-heels. Although her feet feels hurt and even cannot walk, she still continues to wear them. Few days ago, she visited me and complained about her life. She said that “I am looking around even the corner; there is no Mr. handsome at all. I feel so bored and disappointed.”
Among all the facts I have been given above, it is clear that there is no Mr. charming in the reality. The romantic story displays in the tale does not reflect in the today’s society, therefore, girls, please wake up and come back to the real world.

Halloween and Fair Tales

I went shopping this afternoon. There were so many people around shopping mall and shopping for Halloween party. I saw some girls dress like Little Red Cap, while other girls dress like Snow-white; also , I saw a boy about 11 years old, he picked a prince dress, and his friend dressed like a doctor. Anyhow, it is so interesting for me to getting to know about the holiday. Besides the interesting dresses, it also remind me of those tales we have been discussed in class such as Cinderella, Snow-White, and Beauty and Beast. Although those tales have been told for decades, it still popular today, it still influence people’s life deeply in today’s society .

Beauty's character

What makes Beauty so different from other characters? What makes her special? This is one of question we discussed last Thursday. It’s quite interesting question for me. On one hand, I believe Beauty is trick person even more evil than her sisters; on the other hand, I also think she is pretty and kind for some reasons. So, it really hard to determine Beauty is a devil person or an angle, perhaps it is the reason why she is so different from another characters.
As mentioned last Journal, the essential reason she goes to castle to meet Beast with her father is because she wants to pursue her own dream-being a princess. Through the conversion of her and her father, I can assume that Beauty has already knew that Beast is a rich and powerful man, so there she goes

Beauty and Beast Continue

I feel so happy today because professor announced a great news which give all of us a hope to bring up our grades by doing well on presentation part. Everybody in class cherry up and said that “ we love you more now”. Anyway, it’s so nice of her to make this kind of wise decision. Thank you, Professor. Your decision really saves me from the hell. I was so depressed when I had a “F” on my first essay because I know there is no way I can bring up grade even I work hard, but the miracle really happened now. Finally, I can see a hope from this class. Thanks again.
My journal today is about the reason that made Beauty changed her mind and marry the ugly Beast. Beauty said to the Beast that “I would like to marry you, but I am not too candid to allow you to believe that could ever happen. I will always be your friend” (Tatar 38). So, what is her motivation for marrying the Beast? Why would she want to marry someone she even does love? Some classmates believe the reason Beauty decides to marry Beast is money, and others think she wants to escape from the humdrum life with her sisters and live in the opulence of a castle. I believe she wants to marry Beast because she is selfish and avaricious. Beauty is selfish because, rather than live with the guilt of not marrying such an ugly creature, she is marrying him to escape from this guilt. She does not really love Beast, but feels respect, friendship, and gratitude toward him. If she made him unhappy, her lack of appreciation would make her feel guilty for the rest of her life (Tatar 40). Also, she never said the words “I love you” to Beast, although she gave her hands to marry him and swear that only belong to him. Therefore, I consider her an egocentric character based on her self-centered behavior. Now, let’s explore her avaricious nature. According to one of our classmates, Beauty loves the life Beast provided to her, all the accoutrements and luxuries life. I agree with this idea because I think this is what Beauty eventually wants to get. She is just like the character Belle in the Disney’s version of “Beauty and the Beast.” According to the article “culture review”, it says that Belle pretends to be a funny and good person when she stays with those villagers. In fact, she never fit in because she considers herself are different from those villagers: Her dream is to be a princess. So, she is looking for someone to take care of her, spoil her, and give her the finer things in life. True, Belle rejects the role of the traditional housewife: she does not want to clean up after, cook for, and tend to a husband. Domestic work is not on her agenda—ask not for whom this Belle toil—but her rejection of domesticity and its associated labor is not in the name of independence and equality. Rather, Belle is the one who wants to be pampered, to have a husband rich enough to have a staff work her. Both Belle and Beauty are obviously looking for a rich man and willing to marry them; therefore, their dream will come true—they will get whatever they want without any effort. Once again, the first time Beauty heard the story of Beast from her father, she knew that Beast was a rich and powerful man. She goes with her father to the castles to pursue her dream of marrying a rich man. Belle had the similar situation. She knew the Beast is the one who could make her dream come true, so she took a risk to rescue him from the curse. Considering all of these elements, I feel that Beauty and Belle are both sophisticated tricksters.

Feeling about writting.

I like writting this blog a lot lately, therefore, I have spent a lot of time and worked hard on my E-journal site . However, I feel really sad about the fact that no one even visits my site. Perhaps, the reason people do not visit becasue I am really a terrible writer.

Although Enlish is not my native language, it cannot be an excuse why I cannot write well. So, I will keep trying hard to write as much as I can from now on, thats why I have created two blogs besides my diary: one is for the English Class, the other one for training my writting skills. Also, I will take two hours a day to compose essays through a variety of topics. Hopefully, it will help me to improve mywritting skills.

I love writting because I can write down whatever comes to my mind. Also, It is a perfect place where I can express myself well. This is the reason why I have enjoyed writting SO MUCH since I was ten. Wheneve I feel sad or happy, I always come to the site where I write dairy , once I transfer my feeling and emontion into the words, I feel much better. Therefore, writting for me is more like a friend that I can share my life, feeling , everything with. But Iwas sort of forgetting the feeling last few weeks.

Few weeks ago, I lost the feeling of writting due to the plagiarism thing occured. I forgot how I enjoyed writting before. I was kind of scaring to write any things down because I feel myself like a looser. I even started to hate writting despite I have had a habbit to write a dairy for more than ten years. Anyway, It is really tough experience becasue it is the hardest lesson I never had before,

Monster & Life

With the next discussion question, “When the word, “beast”, comes to mind, what types of characteristics that you think that defines “beast”? Are ugly beasts the only monstrous living creatures in this world?” This is a good question I would like to talk about today. The first time we I heard the words “Beast” the first image appeared on my mind is that giant and hairy body, big ears, head, and a ugly appearance. Also, I had a terrible feeling that the beast has scaring voice as well. However, after I read “Beauty and Beast”, I realize that although Beast does not have a favorable outer appearance as well as his intelligence, he does have a favorable personality. He is kind, gentle, thoughtful and naïve. Comparing the characteristics of Beauty’s two “pretty” sisters to ugly Beast; I deem that the two sisters are much more gruesome than Beast. On page 38 and 40, it shows that Beauty’s two sisters are not only feeling happy to lose their sisters, they also set Beauty up to breaking her promise from Beast, then, Beauty will more likely to be eaten by Beast (Tatar). Sisters, in general, mean the ones we can depend on and trust. Sisters suppose to take care of each other and love one another, but what the two sisters’ behaviors. Despite they have a good looking, dress elegantly, their inner essence are as dark as devil. Indeed, It is also occurred in our society as well. There are a minority of people in our society usually portend to be nice to everyone; in fact, they have an evil inner essence. The reason caused them to be sin is because of jealousy or greed. For example, Jerry Skilling, was one of the top guy at Enron, the electron city company in California. He was been called “Death Star.” The reason he had been called “Death Star” was because his vice behavior although he graduated from the business school of Harvard University. In order to make a considerable profit, he encouraged his employee to be good traders, which means they should contained any value except making money. In other words, employee should make a good profit for the company as priority, it does not matter how evil they would be. Therefore, they raised the electronic price frequently. If people did not want to pay, they would shut down the power or moved power to others. This is a typical example of how evil our human could be due to their Greed. Also, there is some other instances regards to the devil people because of jealousy. Such as, people envy other’s beauty or wealth, so they are unfriendly to each other. The worst thing is some monstrous living creatures even act more than AN EVIL like the two sisters in the tale. So, I firmly believe that there are some monstrous living creatures in our society for sure. No matter what kind of reasons people act evilly, I think they should feel shame about themselves. We are all human being, why there are always some attacks and painful things happen, like the war in Iraq. Besides, life is short, why some people would waste their time being an devil, but not Angle.

Outer Appearance and Inner Essence

We had a great discussion this afternoon especially the last question regarding to the issue of beauty. The question is that which is more important to our society today? Outer appearances or inner essences? Every student seemed to have a lot to say so we all provided opinions on that topic. Some students agree with that outer appearance is more important, however, others think that inner essence is more imperative. For me, I agree with the later one, inner essence is important for following reasons.
The reason I think inner beauty is more important because only inner essence is the beauty will last- long. As we know all people look pretty in different ways when they young, but when they aged, they look differently perhaps more ugly than before. Conversely, If they have a good qualities in them, no matter how old they are they would never look ugly. For example, ZhaoyaZhi, who is one of superstar in my country, admired by most people? Though she is fifty years old and has three sons already, I still feel that she is the prettiest celebrity. The reason I have liked her that much is not because she is perfect beautiful, but her inner beauty. She is kind, friendly, and quite candid with people. In 2008, my country had huge disaster called “Sichuan earthquake “, so many people died on that adversity. During the time, all the famous people or celebrities donated funds to be help. However, Zhao is the only celebrity who was not only donated money, but also stayed the place for a month as a servant. Actually, there are many examples of her well-behavior stories; I will not explore all of them. However, my point here is that beauty is not only the way how we look, most importantly, it’s the way how we act. The people who have good qualities inside of them, they would be eventually rewardeded, such as the miracle in the tale,” Beauty and Beast”. In the story “Beauty and Beast”, we can observe that how essential the inner beauty of Beast is. If he did not have the inner qualities in him, he would not be able to obtain Beauty’s heart based on the way how he looked . When Beauty met Beast at the first time, she was scared and never wanted to be friend with him. When the time passed by, the more Beauty stayed with Beast, the more good qualities Beauty discovered in Beast. In the end, she changed her mind to marry Beast. Because of Beauty’s kindness that she preferred virtue to outer appearance and intelligence, the miracle happened. She ultimately deserved a fortune and charming prince who was the ugly Beast turned to be. Among those reasons above, I strongly believe inner essence is more important than outer appearance

Reflection of Beauity And Beast

We have discussed several fairy tales in the past few weeks, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Bluebeard. Each tale has its own highlight for example through the tale LRRH we have learned that how different between Perrault’s version and Brothers Grimm. Although they have some similarities, they do have different places like the intended audiences. Moreover, what is the difference between each tales and how different between each ones. Now, I am going to examine the difference between the tale “Bluebeard and “Beauty and Beast”.Basically, these two tales have a common place such as both main male characters have an unfavorable appearance, which scare people away, but they both are wealthy. Also, they both have power and both have violent part. However, they also do have different places and the major difference between the two tales is that the main character in “Bluebeard” is horrible man and the other one is a kind and charming prince indeed.

Relection of Mistake

I just came back home from school, it’s a tough day for me. This afternoon, I went to school and had conference with professor at Starbucks. Be honesty, the outcome of conference turned to be what I had not expected to be. I was shocked, shame and scared by the result. Because of the mistake I made, I got “0” for my analysis paper due to plagiarize. Although I worked hard I still get “F” at the first term of class. I really want to cry now; I do not know how to deal with the result and how to face it. This is the first time I got “0” from school since I have attended school at five until now.
At the same time, I am also wondering how LRRH is feels about her mistake when she realizes the fault she has had. Because she does not listen to her mother, then it results her and her grandmother have been eaten by the wicked wolf. If there is another chance, does she still do the same thing, enjoying those beautiful flowers and playing with butterflies and talking with the” friendly and charming “wolf on her way. I strongly believe she will not do that again. However, what she feels about when she finds out the huge mistake she make. What is her reaction, it does not show quite clear among the all of versions after I reread it. But, I believe she would definitely regret it and feel depressed, and also hoping to have another chance to make it up her mistake.
I called my mother this afternoon and told her what’s happened. She did not censure me to have the mistake, but she told me a story of my aunt’s. My mother said that my aunt used to be the smartest girl in her school, but she made a huge mistake to marry a wrong guy who does not have any responsibilities for their family after they marriage. He does not want to take care of bills; he does not want to go to work just reply on my aunt’s tiny income. The worst thing is my aunt even cannot get divorce because the guy warns my aunt that once she divorces him, he will kill all of our family members. Therefore, my aunt has to stay with him. In other words, she still has to stay with her mistake. After the story, my mother also told me that we all humans, nobody is perfect, so we do not have be sad or depressed because of one time mistake. The most important thing is learn from your mistake and how to avoid making the same mistake.
After talking with my mother, I have thought about my aunt’s story and LRRH’s and mine, one thing I have learned is that I can do nothing for the mistake I made, but I have learn from the lesson before I make a huge one. Though it is really tough and hard to accept, I have to face it, and attempt to overcome the depressed feeling and do what I should do for tomorrow class. Otherwise, I will be fall behind another class.

Reflection of Bluebeard

On Thursday’s discussion, we had continued discussed the scaring tale Bluebeard. During the lecture, we talked about the similarities and differences of each version of Bluebeard, and the audiences as well as the effects on children of the story. Most of versions, bluebeard, as usual, disappear as a rich ugly man and as a serial killer. Moreover, the story always turn to happy ending from a blue (dark) side, and there is constantly a key or egg and forbidden chamber in each tales. Despite those, the main idea of the story is still almost same no matter which version of Bluebeard is that curiosity. As we had last discussion on Tuesday, the wives action of opening the door is similar to discovering the door to the truth. Although the truth can be hard to accept, the truth is better than lies and deception. Therefore, as a rational human, people should choose explore the truth instead of keeping secret from others because there is no concealing the truth. The truth will come to light sooner or later eventually.

Thoughts Of Bluebeard

We are always amazed when we read Fairy Tales as they were initially recorded by Charles Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, and others. In the story of Bluebeard all the wives are given the perfect life though objects in which they ruined it through their curiosity, but why they let curiosity get the better of them? This is one of questions we discussed today. Bluebeard is a serial killer. One day, he has to go on a business journey; his wife is given set of keys and has been told to use those keys to certain chambers except the one room. However, due to curiosity, her wife entered the special chamber, and discovers that all his husband former wives’ dead bodies hanging around the hook from the wall. She is horrified and drops the key in the blood, which has some sort of magic so the blood cannot be removed. When Bluebeard came back home, he realizes that his life betrayed him and he tries to kill her. Because of her smartness, her wife is successfully put off the time and luckily recued by her brother just in time.
Nonetheless, In the Grimm Brothers’ version, three sisters all have been kidnapped by the wizard to his home. Still, because of curiosity, the first two sisters have been killed, fortunately, the third is not only able to discover the truth , she is also somehow put the limbs back onto her two sister, finally, they all survived. Besides, she also tricks the wizard, who died in fire in his home at the end. Through both versions of Bluebeard, we can observe how danger and important curiosity can be. One the one hand, people even can be killed due to their curiosity like the wives died in Perrault’s edition; one the other hand, people’s life can be survived even gaining happiness because of curiosity in both Perrault’s and Grimm’s version.
Therefore, combine both versions of Bluebeard; we can apparently see how the Bluebeard story changed its emphasis when the years go by. In the beginning, the moral of Bluebeard is simply about the danger of curiosity. Nevertheless as it evolves, the moral is more likely tend to be about how a wife should be treated. The Perrault version it ends up like that: “ Bluebeard left no heirs, and so his wife became mistress of all his belongings. … The money … she used to marry herself to a good man, who helped her forget the terrible time she had spent with Bluebeard.”( The Classic Fairy Tales,p147) Furthermore, In Perrault version’s Bluebeard, the writer also affixed a morals to the tale. Thus, we can state that the “fairytales” were not just entertainments; they also meant to teach their audiences the essential and meaningful principles of the life. It just proves that popular saying, “Sometimes fairy stories may say best what’s to be said.”

What's the important thing in our Life?

Theresa Brow (2008) writes about Patient’s Death in her article “Perhaps Death Is Proud; More Reason to Savor Life.” She indicates that despite doctors has done everything they could do to save a patient, who has lung cancer; she still died eventually. Death is an unsettling truth in a real life; on the other hand, death gives us a apparent inspire to savor life. One important issue from article I would like to discuss there is the statement about life. For me, it is a valuable inspiration.
The issue is about life. Theresa shows (2008) that the only antidote to death is not poetry, or drama, or miracle drugs, or a roomful of technical expertise and good intentions. The antidote to death is life. I agree with her because the statement applies in my own perspective of life. Even though the life nowadays is changing a lot, the essential meaning of life most people are looking for is the same-happiness or the enjoyment of life. By the term “happiness”, people may have different definitions on it. In some people’s mind, perhaps, the happiness is to have a plenty of money, beautiful women, success in their career, or enjoy the miracle drugs. As a result, they would achieve their goals; receive more privileges or more things after years hard-working. For example, in my family, my uncle is a successful business man; he has a big company and a high reputation in his life. However, he has to work hard and be carefully of his fortune all the time. He has no time to spend with his lovely family; he has no rest for himself most of time. Although he lives in a luxury life with a successful career, he has rarely smiles on his face all the time. Mostly, he stays in busy and worrying life. Overall, instead of the life with worrying, busy, luxury; life with children at home, eat well, walking in the rain, feel the sun on your face and laugh loudly would be more meaningful and enjoyable.
In this case, life is affected by death, but death evokes people the meaning or the reason of life. Therefore, people should enjoy the short life. Theresa’s notion is helpful and I agree with her. It’s important to remember that the only way people can release from death is life. Having enjoyment in one’s life is very important, thus, people should get pleasure from it as much as possible.

Who deserve A

“Princeton University should limit the number of A’s it gives students?” is a thought-provoking topic recently. Professors, students, have different opinions on it. Some people think that it’s a good strategy to encourage student to study, opponent believes that if he or she is a terrific student, she would deserve the high mark; otherwise, it’s unfair for those students who work hard, because some student get rewards with little efforts. Therefore, Princeton University should limit the number of A’s. Although there are different views about the topic, in my opinion, having a strict uniform grade police is a necessary step to help student to study well, to prove their ability and the excellent students can be treated fairly.
First of all, by limiting the number of A’s could affect students’ performance. The limited number of high grades will caused boundless competitions, thus, Students should perform well in order to win the horror. If a student gets a high score without any efforts, they might not be able to gain some essential knowledge. Also, they do not know where they should put more efforts. According to Nancy Weiss Milkier, dean of Princeton’s undergraduate college, says, “we want to grading to help student evaluate what they have learned, how well they have learned it and where they need to invest additional efforts.” In other words, student will know the shortages of their study based on the correct grades evaluation, work on it. Likewise, they would do a better job.
Second of all, limiting the number of A’s can have a strict grading system, and aid student to confirm their capability. When the grades are strick by uniform system, the organization is become more serious. Students’ ability would be challenged, so they should put more efforts on their study in order to get high mark. As a whole, they are not only getting high mark, they also showing their full potential. According to New York Times, a student quotes that “if I get the same grade for my very best work that I get for work that is not my very best, less motivated to try to stretch out as far as I can.” In other words, the more strict grading system they have the better talent they will bear out. Overall, a strict grading system can develop students’ intelligence.
The last reason is a strict grading system can contribute to awards to all the good students. Good students are not only being treated fairly, but also enjoy the rewards they earned. Like before no matter how hard the students work, how best they attempt to do, eventually, the same score they always get, so there is no motivation for good students to work hard. For example, some students might have fun all the time and others work hard, but they obtain the same reward that is not equal. For those of hard-working students, they don’t have inspiration to go on. Thus, limiting grade inflation is important to a fair education system, thus, the good student will deserve a high grade in equal circumstances. .
In conclusion, I believe that limiting the number of A’s should be executed. Because those strict A’S honors students with good academic performances, high capability, and the valuable and fair achievement. Although grading A’s is a good strategy to encourage students to study, it should be fair for those hard-working ones. However, with the serious education system, students’ capability can be exert, and better achievements students can be accomplished, the fair rewards they can deserved. So, there is no denying that the Princeton University does a right thing for all students.

School Made Us, Or We Made School

David Leonhardt, an economics columnist for The Times and a staff writer for the magazine, points out that “whether the college makes the student or the student makes the college?” in the article “The College Caculation” on NewYorkTimes. It’s a great question for people, particularly for our college students, to be aware of it. Students attend college for many different reasons. For example, they want to expand their knowledge, social awareness, and enhanced interpersonal relationships. However, the most common reasons they go on college are due to the opportunity of obtaining more choices, gaining high salaries, and more opportunities for advancement in an increasingly competitive job market.
Before attending college, students have a limited opportunity to specialize. After obtaining a specific college degree a job applicant can be competitive for previously unavailable jobs. For instance, applicants with Computer Science degree would not only be qualified for jobs in high-tech companies, they would also be well prepared for any job with computer skills as prerequisite. With a large range of potential jobs to choose from, degree holders are more likely to find a job that suits their particular needs and interests.
Additionally, employers are willing to pay a premium for highly qualified applicants. For example, many companies desire employees who are competent in more than one language and offer higher salaries to attract them. Even if a job applicant without a college degree has high standardized test scores, employers may still place a higher value on an applicant with similar test scores who also possesses credentials from a well-known university. Because of the extent to which a college degree is accepted by employers as proof of competence in a given field, college graduates are not only more likely to receive more job offers, they can also command higher salaries than applicants who lack of college diplomas.
Finally, in addition to offering more choices and high salaries, a college degree offers access to jobs with a clear path towards professional advancement. A.B.S. in biology, for example, could allow a student to find a job in a lab after graduation, a first step on the road towards a career in scientific research. The same major could also be used to apply to a medical school, and a career as a doctor. Both of these avenues would be unavailable without taking the first step of an undergraduate degree.
High possibilities to get good pay or more job offers or the advancement are the most important reasons people go to college. No matter whatever the reasons are, I believe peruse a college degree is the worth thing to do. Therefore, we should understand the vital principle that neither college make students nor students make college, it simply because people need college to shape them up. Michael McPherson, an economist of the Spencer Foundation in Chicago which finances education research, states that, “College cannot guarantee anybody a good life, but it sure ups the odds substantially.”

Reflection Of LRRH, Wolf& Werewolf

I just finished up the first analysis’s paper of LRRH and sitting here relax, but those stories still go around on my mind. Looking back the past few weeks, I have been thought about fairy tales a lot either in the classes or out of the classes as well. Those ideas always remind me lots of things like a story of one of my best friend in China. When I read the moral of the LRRH at the end of tales, “From this story one learns that children, especially young girls, Pretty, well-bred, and genteel, Are wrong to listen to just anyone, and it’s not at all strange, If a wolf ends up eating them. I say a wolf, but not all wolves, Are exactly the same. Some are perfectly charming, Not loud, brutal, or angry, but tame, pleasant, and gentle. Following young ladies, Right into their homes, into their chambers, but watch out if you have not learned that tame wolves, are the most dangerous of all.” (Classic Fairy Tale, P13). From the moral, I have seen some relations between my friend’s story and the LRRH
Mei is my best friend’s name. we did high school and one year college together in China. Mei was always one of top ten students in our school since I had known her. I admired her . However, things changed at the second semester of her college life because of her” Mr Charming”. She met a guy from the “ college dancing party”. According to her, the first time she met him, she knew that the guy was her dreamed prince although he was eight years older than her. Then, they had been dated and hang out for a while, everything seemed went on great. Nonetheless, one day, Mei suddenly came back with a crying face, and told me that that guy had already had wife and a kid. When I heard it, I do not know what to say because I was shocked by the news as well. Why I said that, because the guy acted really nice and gentle, and with a friendly smile all the time, how could I imagine he was a big liar. Since that night, Mei acted strangely. She did not want to talk to people often, she did not hang out with me , she even skipped classes four days a week. Finally, I heard that she went to clubs all the time, also she did drug. As her best friend, I could not just leave it behind; I found her and interrogated her why she did these things. At the beginning, she just kept quiet and did not want to look at me eyes in eyes. Then, I cried because I felt that she was a totally stranger for me. The girl I had hang out with was the one who always look pretty, smart like sunshine, but now she looked like a” crap”. Finally, she opened her mouth and talked to me. At that moment, her eyes bathed in tears, and spoke out everything that she tried to hide from anybody. She said that she could not stand the feeling her life without that guy and it was too painful to give up the relationship because it was her first boyfriend. After she gave him everything, the guys told her the cruel truth.
At this point, I was automatically connect the wolf and that guy together, because his actions exactly same as the wolf ‘s action in the story. He tried to friendly to LRRH, and then the wolf went ahead to her grandmother’s house. He was not only ate her poor grandmother, he was also pretended to be her grandmother and waited for LRRH’s coming. Those details just prove the saying that “there are there are wolves in the real world that are just like the wolf in the story. These wolves are just preying on young impressionable little girls in order to fulfill their sexual desires. The wolf in the story wanted the little girl in his bed, so do the wolves in society. “(Analysis of Little Red Riding Hood, N.A) From the story to my friend’s experience, I have learned that, as a girl or woman, we should learn how to protect ourselves by avoiding those wolves. However, if we unfortunately encounter the werewolf, we should do the following things in order to defend ourselves: do not take to heart everything you hear; do not spend everything you have.

Reflection Of Cinderella's Beauty

There is a saying that “ all women believe that they are beautiful .” I surely believe it is true because all women have something beautiful about them. Some women, perhaps, do not look attractive physically, but they can be the most hilarious or unique person you'd ever meet. For example, they are warm- hearted and kind. They always volunteer to help poor people. Therefore, when we look at people, we should not judge them by their appearance or fine clothes, we should look harder, and then to find that beauty which is so deep down . For example, Cinderella, no matter what kind of clothes she wears, she always looks pretty both inside and outside. Because of her kindness, the little birds like to be company with her and help her eventually; because of her uniqueness, the prince pays close attention on her which is all the girls dream about. During the party, there are many girls with fine and gorgeous looking , Cinderella is just one of them but why the prince only pay a particular attention on her? My explanation is because of her special behaviour. Instead of Cinderella, if the prince dance with any other girl from the party, they would be delighted and willing to stay with him all the time., but Cinderella. All in all, all people are beautiful but the definition of beauty is definitely not just the physically good-looking, that is superficial because no matter how "beautiful" ones look, if they are ugly on the inside they are ugly all around. Besides, as people get age beauty moves from their face to their heart, not from their heart to their face.

A little thought about "Little Red Ridding Hood"

The first time I heard about a fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood” when I was five. I have been told the story by my grandmother, the story pretty much similar to Charles Perrault’s version. A little girl called little red riding hood because she wears a red hood all the time. One day, her mother tells her to take some food to her grandmother who is sick. On the way, Little Red Riding Hood encounters a wolf who pretends to be a gentle man and talks to her friendly. Then, Little Red Riding Hood tells him where she is going. So, the crafty wolf goes ahead of her and eats her grandmother, and await for her. In the end, Little Red Riding Hood discovers her grandmother is not her real grandmother due to the wolf’s big features. Luckily, she has been survived by the woodcutter when the wolf pounces on her as well as the poor grandmother.

This is the only version of Little Red Riding Hood I have grown up with until I read Tatar’s “The Classic Fairy Tales”. Through our discussion, I realize that there are varieties of version of “Little Red Riding Hood” from different countries. In addition, those fairy tale are not only the story for entertaining people, they also leave a moral for their audiences. Now, I am going to simply examine the moral of those two typical versions of Little Red Riding Hood: Charles Perrault’s and The Brothers Grimm’s.

In 1697, the “Little Red Riding Hood” has been adapted for the late 17th century French salon culture by Charles Perrault. It warns young women to be aware of those advanced gentlemen. However, the Brothers Gimme’s version, which has been written in 19th century, attempts to teach children the importance of listening to their elders. Although the two writers have different intended audiences, they all teach their readers a principle of life. Therefore, the fairy tales have been changed much in its history, and been subjected to a lot of modern adoptions and reading, but the eventual goal of those tales are always same – to teach their audiences a moral of their life.

I am new here.

Hey Guys,

My name is Feng Guangzhen (Jenny). This is my first time to be here and creat my own blog.
